Artist Alley vary by convention but generally focus on ensuring a space for artists to sell their original, handmade creations. Key aspects include limitations on the type of merchandise sold (often restricted to the artist's own work), rules regarding display and setup, and guidelines on conduct within the alley. Some conventions implement lotteries for table assignments, while others operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Key Aspects of Artist Alley Policies:
  • Merchandise Restrictions:
Artist Alleys typically limit sales to original, handmade creations by the exhibiting artist. Reselling merchandise is generally not allowed.

  • Display and Setup:
Conventions often have rules regarding the size, height, and materials used for displays.

  • Artist Conduct:
Policies often address noise levels, behavior, and the need to be respectful of other artists and attendees.

  • Table Assignments:
Some conventions use lotteries or waiting lists to allocate tables, while others use a first-come, first-served system.

  • Age Restrictions:
Some conventions require all participants to be 18 years or older.

  • Refunds and No-Shows:
Policies regarding refunds for canceled tables and procedures for handling no-shows vary by convention.

  • Safety and Security:
Conventions may have specific rules about what can be sold, displayed, or done within the Artist Alley to ensure safety and security.

  • Liability:
Conventions usually do not accept responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged items within the Artist Alley.

  • Adult Material:
Policies regarding adult-themed art are often in place, requiring it to be displayed responsibly and sold only to individuals of legal age.

  • General Guidelines:
Artists are expected to comply with all convention rules, local laws, and any other specific guidelines provided by the convention.
